When setting up the newest distribution of dokuwiki one might get the error-notice “indexdir ('index') does not exist”.

Andreas says: “The default location of the index dir is in the data directory. The release tarball contains this directory, users who upgrade an existing install might miss this directory.”

Hence: Create /index via FTP, set permissions and retry your setup via your browser.
