This is currently just an idea - nothing to download yet.
I just came across the BBCode Firefox Extension. This extension allows you to quickly insert BBCode tags as known from the popular phpBB forum software. DokuWiki does not support BBCode in its syntax yet, though it's planned.
I thought about modifing the BBCode extension to support DokuWiki's syntax but then I had an even better idea. Wouldn't it be great if a website itself could specify which syntax it uses? And the extension then could show the appropriate context menu.
I'm thinking about an XML file linked from the documents head via the link alternative tag. Each Wiki-Software could use its own syntax but users could quickly adapt by just using the extension instead.
Okay this is currently just an idea. I never did anything with XUL so I'm not sure how hard it would be to create such an extension - maybe something like this already exists or was proposed? When I find the time I try to see what is doable.
Very nice idea. I'd like to see this happening. Currently, there's no “standard” content formatting language, mainly in Wiki Engines. The possibility to choose the language that better suits the user or community needs would be very user-friendly. Example: people moving from a forum, running phpBB, to a wiki, running DokuWiki, would have an almost null-learning-curve to start contributing content to it. Another example: people moving from PmWiki to Dokuwiki would be “content-productive” since deployment date. They just have to pick the Content-Format-Extension that they prefer. Terrific idea. Mediawiki (wikipedia) has a Firefox extension - http://wikipedia.mozdev.org/index.html - as the syntax is not far from Dokuwiki, could be an option. That said the form here works well to, given neither are WYSIWYG
This idea is still valid, but apparently nothing came from it. Adding simply dokuwiki syntax to the firefox plugin would probably still be the simplest solution – Geert
