Personal Journal

Although it lacks a calendar plugin, DokuWiki can handle daily pages very well. Just create a monthly journal page, that aggregates all daily journal pages, and start adding content for each day.

Also create a page, like ActionItems or ToDoList, to hold all pending tasks that require more thought before execution. This is helpful in organizing your day to day work, by putting entries on current day journal page for tasks that must be executed today and all other tasks in pending tasks page.

Use headings to better outline the content on each page, since one of the neatest features of DokuWiki is its capability of auto-generate a table of contents. A planned feature, SectionEditing, will increase DokuWiki's capabilities in helping the writer to add content.

The biggest effort put into using a WikiEngine as a personal Journal has been the best-practices to follow in order to produce an easy to use with useful information content. For this, the CustomEditingForm from jed will probably be the biggest aid in tailoring DokuWiki for this role.

For the role of Personal Journal, maybe a WeblogEngine (blog) is better suited. WikiPages shine from collaboration, while a blog is only as useful as skills the “owner” has to register information. Deeper evaluation is required, although for the moment this “scenario” is “frozen ”.
